Ever heard of “Open Source”?

Ever heard of “Open Source” software?

There is a slew of “free” (as in choice, but in cost too) software that you may want to check out. Although I am a Linux proponent (more about that later), there are several software tools that you can use in Windows too. Here is a list of some that I use on my Windows laptop:

the Gimp
- Photo editor

Open Office - Microsoft Office - (Word, Excel, Powerpoint replacement?)

Firefox Web Browser - Dump Internet Explorer and try a browser that really works and really doesn’t get spyware - Click on the link to the right to download!

Thunderbird
- A great email program!!

Gaim - A great Instant Messenger

PDF Creator
- Make your own PDFs

There are others too, you can research other open source programs at http://www.jairlie.com/oss/suggestedapplications.html

Give them a try, you will find they are great software programs and they won’t put you back hundreds of dollars.
