Open Source Windows - Free, Open-Source software for Windows
April 8th, 2006 | by Chris |As mentioned in my previous posts here, I am an advocate of Open Source and Linux.
But what if you can’t switch to Linux? You can at least avoid license fees and run great software by running open source applications. These applications are free to download, free to choose, and free to use. They are compatible with your typical licensed software and provide the same or more functionality.
Why is open source so great? Because it brings competition back to the marketplace, resulting in you the consumer getting the best possible products. Are they bug free? No, but then commercial software isn’t either. In fact, the bugs are usually updated and corrected faster than in commercial software.
So Stumbling along, I ran across this page, which is more or less a catalog of open source Windows (and in most cases, Linux) software. Check it out!
