Okay, it was too lonely
July 31st, 2006 | by Chris |After Seibu passed, the house was very empty.
The amazing thing was that there was a definite sense of something missing. After a couple of weeks of feeling this, we decided to go ahead and get a new dog. We had decided years ago that our next dog would be a Weimaraner. We looked online and found a nearby shelter. The shelter specialized in Dalmations and Weims.
We filled out the application, had our home approved and then finally we could meet our prospective pets. We were introduced to three dogs based on our interview. Two of the three were too strong and wild, such that Sophia could not even walk them. Finally, we met the third one. Temporarily called “Ana”. She was perfect. We all agreed she would be the next Shaul doggy.
Renamed “Tobu” (Seibu was East Gate, Tobu means West Gate and is also a Japanese Department Store!), our new friend has finally found a permanant home.
She is quickly becoming a “daddy’s girl” as she has everything to do with me and very little to do with Sophia. She is sweet and smart. With a deep and booming bark, she wakes you up, even if you are already out of bed! But she is very gentle and affectionate. Being 3 years old and already trained, she sits on command and knows what you are wanting. She is also so smart, that she has begun to try to train us.
Some people may wonder about getting a new dog so quickly, but while we are still morning Seibu (and will be for some time), the presence of a new dog really is fulfilling. These are life experiences that I am glad we are sharing with my 12 year old son. He deeply misses Seibu, but understand that Tobu is not a replacement, but an addition.
Welcome to the family Tobu!
