Upgraded without hickups?

August 5th, 2006 | by Chris |

After a long internal discussion with myself, it was finally decided, by me, that I would upgrade my Wordpress installation to the 2.0 version. So I downloaded the latest version and followed the steps:

1. Backup your .htaccess file

2. Backup all your files

3. Backup your database

4. Shutdown all plugins

5. Upload the new files

6. Log in and run the upgrade

7. Restart the plugins one by one

Did all of that then remembered that I forgot number 4! Uh -oh — did I royally screw up my site? Did I just create hours of work for myself? Urrrrrrggggghhh.

I logged in after the database upgrade and realized that I am now running on the upgraded version. Quick, check the site itself. Is everything screwed up, or does it look okay? It is okay! Whew! That was a relief. I hate when I upgrade something and even if done right it still screws up. I have to say thanks to the Wordpress developers for creating a simple and wonderful blogging program. It simply works! Yeah!
